TeamChase Bajambug 2010 Toy Drive

TGN attended this event in beautiful Southern California on Saturday December 4th. The event was put on completely for the benefit of the US Marines Toys for Tots foundation. TheTeamChase family welcomed all RC fans who wanted to come to their private 1/4 mile Large Scale track in Perris California. With only one condition, they bring at least one toy per person. The Chase family not only opened their amazing compound to the public but they also sprung for dinner for EVERY person in attendance. Was it Pizza? Nope, not the Chase family….how about In-N-Out….that’s right, Double Doubles for everyone!

HPI was kind enough to bring out for the first time ever in public the new HPI baja 5SC truck. Attendees were very excited as they huddled around the new tuck had lots of questions for HPI’s John Shultz. Thank you HPI for bringing out this new truck, it looks and runs amazing.

With over 100 attendees and many sponsor mailing donations they had to bring a u-haul to carry off all the great toys. Several sponsors showed up in person to meet and greet their customers which is always a treat for everyone. There were dozens of sponsored items given away at the event and everyone was able to come away with some sort of cool gadget for their baja.

TGN had set up a raffle for a HPI baja 5b RTR kit that was to be built on location by volunteers, including a custom paint job done right on location. Large scale fans from all over the world donated for the chance to win this great prize. Sponsors included SkoPodCraftwerks-RCDDMTeamChaseTeamFastEddySimple Baja StandCustom Street ToyzX-Treme Clean and HPI. Many people helped with their time or with needed parts and we would like to give a special thanks to the main 3 guys who helped build our giveaway baja- JoJoCarlos and Jeff. You guys were machines! TGN would also like to thank all the raffle participants whohelped raise $1,500 for the Toys for Toys Foundation. The lucky winner of the HPI baja 5b was Jon-Cris Paguia and was on location to hear his name called. I dont think we could have pulled a name of a more excited and appreciative person. Congrats Jon-Chris and most of all HAVE FUN!

I can’t thank TeamChase enough for putting on such an amazing event for such a great cause. Your family and friends worked very hard to make this all come together and it really is something to be very proud of. Great work and I sure hope to be back doing it all over again next year.

Worlds Fastest Baja at the ISC 2010 event.

The boys from SkoPod and their incredible 62cc powered beast hit up the 2010 ISC event in Fontana.  They hit what is considered to be a world record for a HPI baja 5b in any recorded and sanctioned event. The body was completely hand made by the team at SkoPod. The cars final speed runs ended up running without the body so they could use the GRP tires instead of what was originally tucked under this body.

See more images of this build by clicking HERE.

Watch out for next year, things should get real interesting. I personally would like to see an HPI baja 5sc enter this competition. Should be cool seeing a truck do 100mph!

TGN does Dunetoberfest 2010

Dunetoberfest- [dune-tober-fest] Origin- A name created on the web in 2007 to represent a name, place, and time for a gathering in the desert near Yuma Arizona. Definition- A gathering in the desert of men and women with one common interest….. spending time in the desert with friends and family and driving R/C cars in what could be argued the best possible location on earth.

I have been attending Dunetoberfest since 2007 and its my favorite event of the year. Because I get to leave my desk for several days and just go out and get dirty and play in the sand. Every year I make the trip its been with Jeff from Craftwerks-RC. This year was the first time we actually camped out on location in the desert. We had the pleasure of breaking in the “new guys” from TeamChase and SkoPod for their first time ever at Dunetoberfest.

This year we saw a great turnout like always. Many of the same old faces and many new ones. Most everyone who attended are already talking about coming back for 2011 so keep your eyes on LSN for up to date news. We also hope to have some quest bloggers who will give us pre-dunetoberfest advice and tips.

Looking forward to seeing you all next year!

HPI Baja makes an impression at Sand Drags

HPI baja 5t lined up at the Lemoore Sand Drags

The other day a couple friends of the local TGN store asked us if we would consider joining them in entering their HPI baja’s into a local Sand Drag event. Well obviously we could not turn down an opportunity like this so we jumped on it. One call to the boys up north at SkoPod was all it took to get Tim and Jim out the the event.

The track is called Lemoore Raceway and its situated about 30 miles west of Visalia where TGN is located. This was the first time they have allowed R/C cars at the event so it was important we make a good impression. We had a total of 5 cars and trucks there, both the baja 5t and 5b were used and we had some with stock 23cc’s all the way to the nitro breathing 62cc monsters from SkoPod.

Jim and Tim from SkoPod position their HPI baja 5b on the drag strip.

Overall the runs went great. People were cheering us on just like the big boys. The sand was real loose and once the cars dug they tracked straight and went like bullets. Most the guys had the HPI mounted Sand Busters, but my rig had the RC4WD Sand Storms and all of them worked well.

It got hard to see them at the end of the track but we just laid into it untill we could not see them anymore. Then Jim from SkoPod would grab them off the track and bring them back to the starting area for us. They even gave us our times and everything, it was pretty cool and everyone enjoyed watching these 1/5 scale R/C cars and trucks run.

At the end of the night we swapped out my paddles for some Pro-Line Trenchers and snuck onto their oval track and went for a couple good passes in the dark. OHHH MAN that was fun, our friends who invited us to this event are looking into possibly renting the location for some test days. We hope thats works out.

He hope to do this again in 2011 and if we do, we will make sure to post here so maybe some other large scale fans from the north and south could come join in the fun.

More images of the night can be seen HERE.

TGN heads east to Hostile Bajafest 2010

After TGN was not able to attend the first year we got a lot of pressure from Hostile to attend his yearly Bajafest in NY in 2010. Not that we needed pressure to go to the event but it helped us seal the deal and get our trip planned out.

TGN, TeamFastEddy, TeamChase and SkoPod all met in NY where we rented an RV and stayed on the Hostile property.

I could talk for hours about what an amazing even and location this is. Hostiles willingness to allow hundreds of people on his incredible piece of property is just the start of what this company brings to the table. Then you have a well organized and very thought out event put on by a bunch of great people. I cant recommend enough to do everything in your power to attend this event. Beg barrow or steal if you have to. If you like R/C and you like Large Scale then grab your car and  your tools and do this event. I promise you will not regret it.

This was the largest turnout of baja’s ever up to this date. Imagine all this in someones backyard.

See hundreds of more images HERE.

After the event and just before we had to return our RV, we headed over to see the Niagara Falls. This was a sight to see, our planet is one amazing place.

TGN and RC4WD travel to Nebraska for HobbyTown

Continuing the good fight to bring Large Scale RC to the masses…… TGN headed to Lincoln Nebraska for the 2010 Hobby Town USA product trade show.  This is a “trade” only show and you must own a HobbyTown USA in order to attend. Your company must also be on an approved list in order to have a booth at the show. TGN sells to many HobbyTowns across the US so this was not a problem for us.

This is a unique show in that there is a standard show floor in a hotel convention area but there is 4 floors of standard hotel room suites that get converted to manufactures show rooms. Its kinda strange at first but it does allow for more privacy than any other show style and I kinda liked it.

HPI had a suit with its cars covering the wall. With the baja 5t at top and the new 1/12 mini trophy truck front and center.

scale

Traxxas used a smalle meeting room in the hotel to showcase their products. We enjoyed this space since we have been expanding our line of Short Course parts.

Lincoln was a neat town, I enjoyed it a lot more than I expected. One night with my camera and tripod in hand I headed out for a photo walk. Here are a couple shots I took.

TGN hits up the TeamChase BBQ.

TGN cruised down to Southern California to participate in the first public event held at the TeamChase compound. The Chase family have a beautiful home situated on a piece of property any RC fan would kill for. His large scale baja track is over 1/4 mile long and has a little something for everybody.

Its not often this track is open to the public so this was a special day for us and everyone who attended. Keep your eyes open at LSN for more events in 2011, you can bet your left dog bone LSN will be there to partake in anything TeamChase decides to put together

As expected, the dude from Craftwerks-RC showed up….

TGN displays at the NRHSA Hobby Show.

The NRHSA show is a “trade” only show held yearly in Las Vegas NV. Some of our vendors had great things to say about this show so TGN and RC4WD teamed up in 2010 to display on the show floor.  Since the inception of the HPI Baja 5b TGN has worked tiresomely to bring the niche Large Scale industry to the local mom and pop hobby store. We have attended every hobby show there is in the US to tell our story and show these store owners how the big boys play. We continue our fight from show to show and this is another great event to put in the books.

Below are some images to show you some other vendors you may know who attended.

Our friends from Pro-Line were there showin off their goods.

As well as the boys from HPI.

You cant have a hobbyshow without a model train display.

Can anyone guess where this shot was taken on our trip? First comment to be posted with the correct answer gets a free TGN t-shirt.
